Comptoir BantuDesi Teas Joins the 1st Amsterdam Tea Festival
A Celebration of Tea, Women, and Ancestral Knowledge
On January 31st, 2026, Comptoir BantuDesi had the honor of participating in the Amsterdam Tea Festival, one of Europe’s most vibrant gatherings dedicated to tea culture, craftsmanship, and innovation. For us, this festival was more than a marketplace — it was a meeting point of stories, origins, and people who believe that tea is both a ritual and a responsibility.
Bringing Africa and India to the Heart of Amsterdam
At the center of Comptoir BantuDesi’s work lies a simple yet powerful commitment: to honor ancestral tea knowledge while creating economic empowerment for women farmers in Africa and India, while offering quality/organic products. The Amsterdam Tea Festival offered the perfect platform to share this vision with an international community of tea lovers, professionals, and curious explorers.
Throughout the festival, visitors were invited to discover our single-origin and herbal infusions, learn about their cultural roots, and understand how each cup directly supports women-led farming communities. Conversations flowed easily — about terroir, harvesting practices, ancestral rituals, and the role of tea in everyday wellbeing. Visitors connected deeply with our approach to single-origin and herbal teas sourced from women-led cooperatives, and with the stories, rituals, and care practices behind each blend.
A Warm Welcome from the Tea Community
The response from the Amsterdam tea community was deeply affirming. Several of our signature teas sold out during the festival, a moment of pride that reflected not only the quality of our products, but also the resonance of the stories behind them. Tea lovers showed genuine interest in how our teas are grown, who harvests them, and why ethical sourcing and fair trade matter beyond labels.
What stood out was connection — people taking time to listen, ask questions, and engage with the human side of tea.
Tea as Culture, Not Just a Beverage
During the festival, founder Verlaine-Diane Soobroydoo also hosted a dedicated session on Tea, Women, and Ancestral Wisdom, exploring tea as a vessel for healing, memory, and cultural transmission. From Bantu traditions in Africa to Desi practices in India, tea has long been safeguarded and passed down by women — a legacy we are proud to amplify on global stages. This perspective resonated strongly with attendees, reinforcing the idea that tea is not simply consumed, but experienced — as ritual, as heritage, and as a bridge between continents.
